The "Geezer" Rides!

Since I have dusted off the bike for a new season, thought I'd post the "Riding Geezer". This was taken at the Killarney Station on the West Orange Trail. We were at the half way point on our 28 mile ride. For me that was the longest distance I have ever biked. Since I am only interested in biking as cross-training and "Sprint" distance triathlons, I don't expect too many "long" rides. I would like to work on my endurance up to 15 miles, and speed up to 20 mph, that should cover most "Sprint" races. Now all I need to do is get my swimming in order. I biked 14.8 miles this morning and it is beginning to feel more comfortable.

Great ride - 28 is longer than my longest (mine is 25). Good luck in your tri seasoon!

Geezer, you remind me of those old Army commercials. "We do more before 4:30AM, than most people do all day." You are remarkable.

Hey, you look like a pretty serious cyclist to me. What type of tires are you riding with? When I started doing tris on my old mtn bike, I switched out my old fat knobby tires for narrower slicks and got faster with less effort!

Shirley, I have 700X28C tires, they have a slight tread. You can tell I know a lot about this technical stuff. All I know it is fun!

Those tires will work fine on paved surfaces. The next big thing to get faster for sprint tris (besides simply training to ride faster) is probably learning to ride in a more aerodynamic body position, either with or without aerobars (just bend those arms and get closer to the handlebars!). Not sure clipless pedals are worth using in sprints because you'll have to switch shoes. Whatever you decide, continue to have fun!!
